The most interesting thing that we have seen in the past couple of months that smartphones are trying to avoid the notch. On the race to the bezel-less phone, we have the standard notch(Apple), we have tear-drop notch, we have the infamous bath-up notch(One Plus 6T), we have selfie-popped up camera (Vivo Nex), we have the motorized chassis (Oppo Find X) and now we have this the manual slider and honestly this is very addictive one of my favorite way to do it.
In the ending of 2k18 honor and Xiomi launched their addictive manually slider phones namely HONOR MAGIC 2 AND THE MI MIX 3. So this slide motion is basically due to spring load that makes it so satisfying, it makes me so nostalgic and also every time you do it with the volume on you get the sound effect and the lighting effect along the sides of the display which automatically opens the front-facing camera and close it accordingly when you slide it up and down.
In this post, I am going to cover the comparison between the MI MIX 3 AND HONOR MAGIC 2. Also, we are going to reveal the real winner of the sliding phone. So let’s get started………….
- Which is the better sliding phone in terms of durability?
Fidgeting with the slider is very delightful but that’s only in the beginning after using it for a few days now I have noticed a few things that make me a little skeptical about both the devices.
So the MI MIX 3 features Neodymium Magnets to lock the phone in the open and closed position which should be more durable and Xiomi says they have tested the phone through 300000 open and close cycles but I am little unsure about it and there are a couple of reasons for that:-
- Another reason is that there is the flex at the bottom when you slide down it (opens the camera) and I really feel like if I put in some force it would break. Honestly drop test with this thing is quite funny.
- When you open up the slider if you look closely you will see that there is the gap between the two pieces which makes it feel like it’s not that sturdy.
Whereas the HONOR MAGIC 2 uses its butterfly slide mechanism is easier to slide I don’t mean that MI MIX 3s magnets are hard but still HONOR MAGIC 2 just feel effortless.
- Which among them has an eye-catching premium look?
Both these phones are built in the same way but they look quite different; XIOMI has a ceramic back design makes sliding difficult and which is quite slippery but I prefer HONORS gradient here I feel it more eye-catching.
- Is there is any difficulties while using manually sliding phone it in day-to-day life?
In the MI MIX 3, the type-c port is not on the display part like the HONOR MAGIC 2 with certain cables you won’t be able to slide the MI MIX 3 open while it’s charging but with the HONOR MAGIC 2 whenever you unplug any cable the display slides open it gets annoying at time.
- Which one is the lighter in weight?
At least from the design point of view, these two are very evenly similar; but I am still going to give this round to the MAGIC considering its lighter and thinner has that gradient back and in display fingerprint scanner.
HONOR MAGIC 2 weighs approx. 206gm while MI MIX 3 weighs around 218gm.
The slider mechanism brings BULK to MI MIX 3 and the moment when you hold it in your hand you will find it immediately and it’s not that this is actually thick phones its just that sliding design makes it heavier than actual.
- As both are manually sliding phone is there are any possibilities of slipping?
Slippery sliding design in the MI MIX 3 makes sliding a lot more difficult than what I thought it would be……! Every time I used the slider I feel like the phones going to slip from my hand.
On the other hand HONOR MAGIC 2 has the gradient back which looks eye-catching.
|HONOR MAGIC 2||MI MIX 3|
|OS||9.0 // PIE||9.0// PIE|
|PROCESSOR||KIRIN 980||SNAPDRAGON 845|
|GPU||MALI-G76 MP10||ADRENO 630|
MI MIX 3 has the latest Snapdragon 845 well the HONOR MAGIC 2 is powered by the latest high silicon kirin 980 chipsets. Now theoretically the MAGIC 2 wins with regards to CPU as shown in the above table. Both the chipset are an absolute monster.
OS: OPERATING SYSTEM
OS is the bridge between the software and hardware. In the case of smartphones, it forms USER INTERFERENCE // UI.
In both, the device’s Hardware is beautifully complemented to the software. MI MIX 3 is running on Android 9.0// PIE with Exclusive MIUI 10 while HONOR MAGIC 2 is also running on Android 9.0// PIE with MAGIC UI.
- Why sliding mechanism instead of trendy notch?
Sliding is introduced so that we don’t get any notches to the front as to get front is just all screen.
- Whose display is better?
Even in display category this two phones quite evenly matched the same size display 6.39 Inches same technology AMOLED,
same resolution Full HD+ hell even the aspect ratio is the same. So again quality wise they are almost identical so as far as displays this one is the tie.

- Which one of them provides better performance?
Both of these phones quite evenly matched both support top of the line chipsets. The MI MIX 3 has the SNAPDRAGON 845 well the HONOR MAGIC 2 is powered by the latest High Silicon Kirin 980 chipset.
- Coming to the most asked question “Which one has the better Camera?
MI MIX 3 has the two 12 MP sensor: Primary Sony IMX 363 with an optically stabilized f/1.8 lens whereas the secondary camera has an f/2.4 aperture with the telephoto lens.
On the other hand, the HONOR MAGIC 2 has a 16 MP f/1.8 primary and a 24 MP Monochrome secondary again with f/1.8 lens finally there’s a 16MP sensor with a wide-angle f/2.2.
- Which of them captures perfect daylight shots?
When it comes to the daylight shots both these phones take good looking pictures; the detail levels are comparable but MI MIX 3 does edge ahead when it comes to colors and dynamic range.
- Which one of them survived in nightlight?
Under the low light, both of these phones have specialized Night Modes. MI MIX 3 absolutely blew away the competition here images look much brighter it closer to the PIXEL 3 and MATE 20 PRO than the HONOR MAGIC 2.
- What type of lens used in Secondary camera?
MI MIX 3 has a Telephoto lens that’s something the HONOR MAGIC 2 lacks; but the MAGIC 2 counters with Ultrawide lens so that is an advantage; there’s also a Monochrome sensor on the HONOR MAGIC 2 which does produce some very nice looking shots.
- Whose video quality is better in the sense stable?
When it comes to the videos we get 4K 30 on the HONOR MAGIC 2 while the MI MIX 3 can do 4K 60 that possible the to the presence of OAS means the resulting footage from the MI MIX 3 looks a lot smoother and its also more stable.
MI MIX 3 can also capture Super Slow motion video at 960 fps this is missing at least for now from MAGIC 2.
- How is the portrait mode in both of the devices?
As far as the portrait selfies are a concern the 24MP Mi Mix 3 has the better edge reduction.
- Whose battery stands to stay long?
Despite being thinner the HONOR MAGIC 2 still has the higher battery capacity it has 3500 MAh battery more than Mi Mix 3 which has 3000 MAh battery. Mi Mix 3 performs better than expected but the Honor Magic 2 does perform better at least 10% better.
When it comes to Charge Time the Honor Magic 2 do with Huwai supercharged already does 0 to 50 in just 15 freaking minutes while Mi Mix 3 has support for quick charge 4+ it’s quick but not quick as compared to Magic 2.
So this round goes to Honor Magic 2.
But there’s a surprise that Mi Mix 3 has support for wireless charging and it includes 10 Watt fast wireless charger in the box while Magic 2 has In-display Fingerprint lock and Mi Mix 3 standard FingerPrint lock.
In this post, I have clarified the comparison between the Mi Mix 3 and Honor Magic 2 with the help certain categories. So the overall results: Honor Magic 2 is best as compared to Mi Mix 3 at least 10% in some areas but Mi Mix 3 isn’t totally bad.
